If you would like to factory reset your Sony Xperia because it is not working, running slow or being sold follow these steps. This is also known as refresh or hard reset.
Soft Reset
- Ensure any data that you need on your phone is backed up – this will erase it all.
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Choose the System option.
- Select the Reset option.
- Tap on Factory data reset.
- Select Reset phone.
- Finally, tap ERASE EVERYTHING to complete the process.
Hard Reset (this will require a computer to do, access to the Google account on your phone, and for your phone to be charged. This will delete all the data on your phone.)
- You will first need to install the Xperia Companion program onto a computer to do this.
- Open Xperia Companion on your computer.
- From the main menu, click on Software repair.
- Follow the instructions within the computer software to continue the process.
- You will need to:
- Unplug your phone from the computer
- Turn off your phone and wait for several seconds
- Press and hold the Volume Down button on your phone
- Connect your phone back to the computer whilst still holding down the Volume Down button
- Allow the software to continue the process, being aware of any prompts as to data loss from your device.
- Disconnect your phone and turn it back on once the process has completed.
