If you would like to factory reset your Xiaomi Mi because it is not working, running slow or being sold follow these steps. This is also known as refresh or hard reset.

Soft Reset (this will delete all data on your device – please also ensure you can log into a Google account on your phone)

  1. Back any data you need on your phone, to Google Drive for example.
  2. Turn on your phone.
  3. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  4. Look for the Reset option within Settings.
    • Depending on the version of Android your phone runs this may be under Backup & reset within General Management, Advanced settings, System, or System & updates.
  5. Tap on Reset phone when prompted.
  6. Enter the password to your phone.
  7. Allow the process to complete and your phone to restart.

Hard Reset (this will delete all data on your device)

  1. Check that your phone is charged.
  2. Turn off your phone and wait for several seconds.
  3. Hold down the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time until the screen turns on.
    • If you see a Mi logo, release the Power button but keep holding the Volume Up button.
  4. When the recovery mode menu appears, let go of any buttons.
  5. Using the Volume buttons to scroll the menu, select the Wipe Data option.
  6. Press the Power button to select.
  7. Using the buttons as before, select Wipe All Data.
  8. Select Confirm on the next menu.
  9. Select Reboot to System and allow your phone to restart – this could take some time.
