If you would like to factory reset your iPhone because it is not working, running slow or being sold follow these steps. This is also known as refresh or hard reset.

If you cannot access your phone for any reason, please go directly to step 5.

  1. To reset your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > Reset and then select Erase All Content and Settings.
  2. If you’ve got an iCloud backup set up, iOS will ask if you’d like to update it, so you don’t lose unsaved data. We advise you to follow this advice, and tap Back Up Then Erase.
  3. After typing in your passcode (if you’ve set one), you’ll get a warning box, with the option to Erase iPhone (or iPad) in red. Tap this.
  4. You’ll need to enter your Apple ID password to confirm the action. The device will be wiped and go back to the initial setup screen you saw when you first used the device.

Your phone is now reset. No further action required.

  1. If you cannot access your iPhone, please follow these steps to reset your iPhone.
  2. Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
  3. Quick-press the Volume Up button
  4. Quick-press the Volume Down button
  5. Hold down the Side button until the screen goes black, then hold down both the Side button and Volume Down button.
  6. After 5 seconds, release the Side button while continuing to hold down the Volume Down button.If the Apple logo appears, the Side button was held down for too long.
  7. Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode. If open, iTunes will alert you that a device was detected in recovery mode.If your device shows a screen telling you to connect the device to iTunes, retry these steps.
